We all know that wheel hubs can be cast or forged. Which of the two ways to make the hub stronger?
1、 Different production processes
There are differences in the production process between the cast wheel hub and the forged wheel hub. The so-called casting refers to the process of melting the metal into a liquid that meets certain requirements, pouring it into the casting tool, and then after a period of cooling, solidification and cleaning, producing castings with specified shape, size and performance. Forging is to apply enough pressure to the metal plate with the help of a forging press, resulting in plastic deformation of the metal plate, thus forging a processing method with a certain mechanical property, a certain shape and size.
2、 Different production costs
The production costs of casting wheel hub and forging wheel hub are also different. The casting process is relatively simple and convenient, and it is easy to carry out mass production and manufacturing. Therefore, the production cost of casting wheel hub is relatively low, while the process of forging wheel hub is relatively complex, so the cost of manufacturing wheel hub in this way is relatively high. Another point is that the forged wheel hub needs continuous tempering to be made, so the molecules of the forged wheel hub are relatively dense and arranged more orderly, which makes the strength and toughness of the forged wheel hub better than the strength and toughness of the cast wheel hub. Generally speaking, the forged wheel hub is more solid than the cast wheel hub.
3、 Different in weight
Because the raw material of the forged wheel hub needs to be continuously pressed during the manufacturing process, it can withstand very large pressure once it is formed. In addition, under the condition of the same size and strength, the forged hub is also lighter than the cast hub. Generally, as long as the quality of the cast hub meets the requirements, the forged hub weighs one fifth of the weight. However, forged wheel hubs have a disadvantage, that is, the ductility of metal is not very good, and the price is also a little more expensive than cast wheel hubs, so they generally appear on high-end models.
From the above, if you think the forged wheel hub is too expensive, you can choose to use the cast wheel hub. Although it is not as strong as the forged wheel hub, the advantage is that the price is cheaper and the cost performance will be higher. In addition, we must look at the structural dimensions of the hub when selecting the hub.
