The casting process difference between cast steel and cast iron
The casting molding of iron and steel has cast iron and cast steel, which are produced by general smelting technology or simple equipment. Although the two are the same iron carbon alloy, they have different metallographic structure after crystallization due to the different percentages of chemical elements such as carbon, silicon, manganese, phosphorus and sulfur, and show many different mechanical properties and technological properties.
In the casting state, the elongation, section shrinkage and impact toughness of cast steel are higher than cast iron. The compressive strength of cast iron is better than that of cast steel. In bending test, cast iron is brittle fracture, cast steel is bending deformation and so on.
Cast iron: more wear-resistant, but the strength is still relatively low, toughness and plasticity is slightly poor, weldability is also slightly larger. Our cast iron technology appeared in the Han Dynasty, but can develop spherical graphite cast iron. Cast iron can also be divided into gray cast iron and white cast iron according to the graphite precipitation composition.
Cast steel: Large cast steel is widely used by most enterprises, the annual export volume of our country is also very high, occupies a certain proportion. It is generally used in railway, construction, metallurgical machinery industry and mining equipment, etc., cast steel and cast iron performance is similar, but better than cast iron strength, and can be welded.
It can be concluded that the performance of cast steel is much better than that of cast iron, and it can also be welded, but the cost is higher than that of cast iron.
