When the car is traveling in a straight line, the differential is taken as a whole. These gears rotate with the differential housing, and there is no relative movement between the gears and the housing; When the car turns a corner or runs on a bumpy road, the wheels on the left and right sides have a speed difference. In this case, these gears have relative motion with respect to the differential housing, and there is friction between the gears and the differential housing.
In order to reduce friction and prolong the service life of the gear and the housing, a gasket made of mild steel, bronze or nylon is designed between the back of the gear and the differential housing to avoid direct contact between the gear and the differential housing and protect the differential.
The working principle of the differential. In the process of force transmission, the two bevel gears, the planetary gear and the half shaft gear, act on a large axial force. To reduce the wear between the gear and the differential housing, the back of the half shaft gear and the planetary gear are respectively equipped with a flat gasket 3 and a spherical gasket 5. Gaskets are usually made of mild steel, copper or polyoxymethylene plastic.
The lubrication of the differential is carried out together with the final drive. In order to make the lubricating oil enter the differential, windows are often opened on the differential housing. In order to ensure that the lubricating oil can reach between the planetary gear and the planetary gear shaft journal smoothly, a plane is milled on the planetary gear shaft journal and a radial oil hole is drilled between the teeth of the planetary gear.
On cars below the intermediate level, due to the small torque of the driving wheel, two planetary gears are often used in the differential. The corresponding planetary gear shaft is a straight pin shaft. The differential housing can be made into an integral housing with a large window hole through which the planetary gear and half shaft gear can be disassembled.
